The Golden Paste recipe, written down properly
How to make it, how much to give, and why the oil step is the one nobody should skip. From the vet who wrote it - and a dog who's watched a lot of dinners.
Bend has read the recipe. He has notes on step three.
One pot. A fortnight of dinners
Ten minutes at the stove makes a jar that keeps 2–3 weeks in the fridge - or freeze it in portions. Cook once, spoon it over dinner, done.
More in the spoon. Less in the jar.
Curcumin is the active compound in turmeric - and the supermarket jar carries it in small, unpredictable amounts, there mostly for colour and curry night. Turmeric Life is a high-potency powder at 8% curcumin (as labelled), so a quarter-teaspoon in the bowl actually carries weight. Same spice rack, different league.
Curcumin needs a fat to cross the gut wall. Give it one
Golden Paste gets its oil stirred in after cooking, off the heat, so the fat stays raw. Omega Nectar is that oil - raw, cold-pressed, rich in omegas 3, 6 & 9 and GLA. It carries the curcumin, keeps the paste smooth, and earns its own place in the bowl.
Omega Nectar - raw, cold-pressed seed oil · 100 ml · a daily supplement for dogs.
Any fat carries the curcumin. Only one brings its own omegas.
Curcumin is fat-soluble - it needs a fat to cross the gut wall, and the recipe's always called for a good oil. Coconut and olive do the job. Flaxseed adds omega-3, but it's one note: a big hit of omega-3, no GLA, and it turns fast.
Omega Nectar brings the balanced spread - omegas 3, 6 & 9 plus GLA, that most kitchen oils don't have - in a raw oil that holds up. Same spoonful, more in the bowl.
Omega Nectar - raw, cold-pressed seed oil · omega 3-6-9 + GLA · the oil step, doing two jobs instead of one.
Make it in four steps
Cheap, simple, and you own most of it already. The oil step is the one people skip. Don't.
You'll need
- ½ cup (60 g) High Potency 8% Curcumin Turmeric Powder
- 1 cup (250 mL) water, plus extra in reserve
- 2–3 tsp freshly cracked black pepper
- ⅓ cup (70 mL) Omega Nectar™ - raw, cold-pressed seed oil
Method
- Simmer the turmeric and water for 7–10 minutes until it thickens into a paste. Splash in reserve water if it sticks.
- Take it off the heat. Let it cool 10–20 minutes - warm, not hot. Heat wrecks good oil.
- Stir in the pepper and the Omega Nectar until it's one smooth, golden thing.
- Jar it. Fridge for 2–3 weeks, or freeze single serves in silicone moulds.
How much goes in the bowl
A starting guide. Build up gradually over the first two weeks.
| Dog's weight | Golden Paste daily | Omega oil daily |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 10 kg | ¼ teaspoon | 2 ml |
| 10–25 kg | ½ teaspoon | 5 ml |
| 25–40 kg | 1 teaspoon | 8 ml |
| 40 kg + | 1½ teaspoons | 10 ml |

The questions people feel silly asking
Is turmeric safe to feed every day?
As a wholefood in sensible amounts, yes - that's the point of the paste. Start small, build gradually, and tell your vet what's in the bowl.
Will my fussy eater actually take it?
Most do, mixed well through dinner. Start with less than you think you need. For the truly unconvinced, the Bites exist for exactly this reason.
Can I give it alongside my dog's vet medication?
Tell your vet first. This is a nutritional supplement, and for a dog with a diagnosed condition or on medication, your vet should always know what's in the bowl.
Why the black pepper?
Piperine slows the breakdown of curcumin, so more of it stays around long enough to matter. Fresh-cracked only - pre-ground has lost the plot.
How long does the kit last?
The 500 g powder makes several batches. One batch uses about 70 mL of Omega Nectar, so the bottle covers about one batch. Add a second bottle if you plan to cook more than once.
